We are building a new Forward Deployed Engineering team, and we are looking for strong software engineers who enjoy solving hard problems, writing production code, and working directly with customers.
Our FDEs are ๐๐๐ฏ๐๐ฅ๐จ๐ฉ๐ฆ๐๐ง๐ญ ๐๐ง๐ ๐ข๐ง๐๐๐ซ๐ฌ who combine deep software engineering with hands-on work in customer environments. They work side by side with customer technical teams to design, build, deploy, and stabilize production solutions across AI, agentic systems, automation, data, integrations, networking, and cloud infrastructure.
But delivering for one customer is only part of the job.

The team will identify reusable patterns, build reusable capabilities, and help shape how Extreme's products and platforms evolve.
We are hiring across multiple engineering levels. If this sounds like your kind of work, or you know someone who would be a great fit, please apply here.

AWS just put $1 billion into it. Microsoft is embedding 6,000 engineers inside customer operations. OpenAI, Google Cloud, and Salesforce are building teams of their own. The reason is straightforward: AI systems do not behave the same way at every customer, the way a CRM record does, so companies are sending engineers into the field again to close the gap between what the technology can do and what customers can actually run.
That gap has opened before. IBM's systems engineers worked on-site in the mainframe era. Systems integrators did it for ERP. SaaS pushed the work into solution architects and customer success. Each time, the model worked when what the field learned made its way back into the product, and it failed when it didn't.

It fails on the company's side when reuse never happens and the business ends up running services with a product attached. It fails on the customer's side when the deployment succeeds but the customer can never operate, change, or extend it without the company's engineers coming back.
