Not too long ago, if you told someone you were a “Forward Deployed Engineer,” you’d likely get a blank stare. Outside of a couple of pioneering tech companies, the title practically didn't exist in everyday conversation. In fact, it reminds me of a stand-up comedy clip I saw a while back that perfectly sums up how niche and unknown the title used to be. (Link in the comments) Fast forward to today, and the landscape has shifted. It’s still an ever-changing role, with almost every company defining its responsibilities slightly differently. Some call it the future of software engineering; others dismiss it as a buzzword. I prefer to just call myself one, as I start as a Forward Deployed Engineer at C3 AI in Chicago! 🥳 Exhilarating is probably the right word to describe how it feels to step back into the engineering world after a year of grad school. From the engaging conversations during the interview rounds to a smooth onboarding experience, the team at C3 AI has been incredibly welcoming. I’m looking forward to diving in, learning from sharp colleagues, and seeing firsthand what the day-to-day looks like as enterprise AI continues to evolve.
