FORWARD DEPLOYED ENGINEER A Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) is someone who sits close to the real problem. Instead of receiving a perfectly defined requirement and simply building it, the FDE often works with customers, product teams, architects, and engineers to figure out what actually needs to be solved, how it should be solved, and how to get it working in the real world At the center of the role are four strong foundations: AI Engineering, Solutions Architecture, Software Engineering, and Product Ownership. The AI side brings models, agents, automation, and intelligent workflows. Architecture brings the ability to see the bigger picture and connect different technologies. Software engineering turns ideas into working systems. Product thinking keeps everything focused on the people using the solution and the business outcome it is supposed to achieve But an FDE's world goes beyond those four areas. Real customer problems can involve cloud platforms, data, APIs, security, infrastructure, operations, user experience, delivery, and many other disciplines. The FDE doesn't have to be the world's deepest expert in every one of them.
