Just become a GTM engineer. I don't get why anyone in sales picks a different path right now. SDR: > $60k base & 14 months average tenure > 61% hitting quota a year in > it's the seat the system replaces AE: > fewer postings will look at 2-4 years' experience > the ones asking 5+ went from 37% to 42% > you're queueing for a seat that's shrinking RevOps: > you maintain tools someone else picked > the dashboards get built, then nobody reads them > the first name mentioned when forecast misses Automation contractor: > you build whatever the client asks for > no idea whether it produced a single meeting > priced against Upwork, month to month GTM engineer: > $127.5k median & Vercel pays $252k > postings up 205% in a year > a 2 year old title, so tenure disqualifies nobody > SQL takes weeks & the automation tools take days > your SDR years are the half they can't teach > hired off what you've built, degree never comes up > everything you build once gets rebuilt faster next time Hormozi keeps saying the biggest AI play is building automation inside businesses that already exist. The revenue side of that has a job title now. Only 45% of companies can define the role yet, so whoever walks in with a definition writes their own job.
