About 8 months in as a GTM engineer, and the hardest parts weren't the builds. Communication. Technical folks want to know how it works. Leaders want to know what it saved, in hours or in dollars. You need both answers ready. Project management. We're an agency, so our clients need to know when things land. I have to know my dates before they ask. Scoping. Before I touch Clay or Claude Code, I want to know exactly what I'm building. Go the wrong direction and you burn a lot of time redoing work. The scope of GTM Engineering skills are quite broad, you will be challenged because of this and thats ok! That's how we learn and improve. ♥️

someone asks me how to become a gtm engineer almost every week. here's my honest answer. find a problem you actually care about, then pay for your own keys so nothing is in your way. i did that when i was broke and it paid off. happy to point anyone in the right direction. i'll be sitting with Tim Yakubson 🚀 next week to talk about my journey and how's he helped me! stay tuned : )

a 30 minute office hours with Christopher Ocampo, Elias Stråvik, Abdullah Ashraf turned into two and a half hours about go-to-market engineering yesterday. the field is new and nobody has it figured out. what i keep seeing at The Kiln is that everyone is incredibly intelligent and our capacity to solve problems is high. if you're trying to become a GTME you're still early.

yesterday we had Jacob Dietle talk at The Kiln. there's a relieving thread amongst the best GTME I've seen. they don't get it right the first time.. what they do have is curiosity and this never ending pursuit to tinker and some problems the fog of war as Matt Pocock says, applies to GTME. it's the iterations that help you uncover the fog and get to the result you're pursuing.
